Arrayed below are the show entries in the April 28-30, 2000 GFSA Convention 2000 show. The show was owner-benched; that is, the fishes' owners specified what class the fish should be placed in, and then they were judged in those classes. In general, this worked very well. The only area of possible confusion was for the "under 3-inch" classes, were the definition of how you measure a fish was variously interpreted.
The fish below are also marked with any awards that they won. In general, there were awards for first through third place in each class (given a class with at least three fish). You will see a couple of classes with irregularities in the awards below: all fish marked did receive awards, so the problem is that a fish is not displayed in the correct class. But this is 90% correct.
There was also a Breeder Points class not indicated below. Since the fish were judged on a points system, with records kept for all fish, it was possible to determine the first through third highest scoring breeder fish. These were: first, second, and third.
This show's emphasis on breeder entries brought out a significant percentage of US-bred and raised fish. The first place red Ryukin mentioned above was raised by Jim Fleeker and is a very nice specimen. The "Best Ranchu" in show, owned by Ken Terrill, is actually a US-breeder fish, which Ken purchased; it was not entered as a breeder fish, since Ken didn't breed it himself. All this demonstrated that there are a number of active US breeders producing quality fish. The auction also helped reinforce this, where many more varieties of breeder-produced fish were offered up for sale.
So, enjoy the gallery of show entries below. They are placed first into five groups and then into classes within the group. To see a large image of any fish, click on the thumbnail picture. And, next time, try to come to a show in person to get the full experience!
