The next US goldfish-related event is a goldfish and Koi sales event in Texas in May. Following that, there are several British open shows in June. These are on the events calendar.

Seasonal Advice

If you breed your fish, either intentionally or inadvertently, the best food to start the fry on is live. The fry eat nothing for the first 2 or 3 days after hatching, but then become free swimming and need food. For the next 2 or 3 days, green water and infusoria will do, but most breeders start the fish on newly hatched brine shrimp right away or sifted daphnia, if you are lucky enough to have access to this freshwater crustacean. These foods should be continued for 4 weeks, with a conversion to a prepared food starting in the 3rd week.

There are a number of substitutes for live food that can be used. Prepared "fry foods", finely powdered flakes, egg yolk pushed through a fine cloth, artificial plankton rotifer, trout starter, decapsulated brine shrimp eggs and many other foods have been used with varying success. All will work, but be extra careful about water quality.
