The Goldfish Society of America (GFSA)

The only national hobbyist organization in the US catering specifically to goldfish fanciers (that I am aware of) is the GFSA. It is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that publishes a bimonthly newsletter and holds an annual convention/show, as well as sanctioning a few others. Through the newsletter they also support a hotline and a pen pals list, as well as local club contacts, and of course articles.

Here is some information on membership. My opinion? Join and become a contributor!

In the time I've been a member, I've been very impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the members I've contacted. I have to say, buying fish from a breeder/hobbyist is much more satisfying than buying from a pet shop.

Here are some write-ups and photos from GFSA-related events:

Sample Tables of Contents from the Goldfish Report

The monthly newsletter is called The Goldfish Report and usually contains a total of 10 to 15 regular columns and feature articles. I've found the material to be extremely interesting and informative. The GFSA has many 30 plus year goldfish veterans as members; when these guys offer advice I definitely want to hear it. Here are example tables-of-contents from a few 1996 issues, to give you a feel of what the publication is like.
